Orthopedic injuries are disorders of the muscles, bones or connective tissue that impact individuals of all ages.  These disorders are frequently accompanied by pain, swelling, weakness, loss of motion and resultant restriction from performance of daily activities.  Trauma, sports injuries, sprains or strains, repetitive use injuries, degenerative joint disease and surgery are some of the most common musculoskeletal reasons for which seek medical care.   Physical and Occupational Therapy are excellent treatment choices to address orthopedic injuries, because therapists understand how the body works and how to get you moving again. 

At CPT, our goal is reduce your pain, improve your motion and empower you to regain functional independence - including prevention of future injury.   To achieve this, our therapists will explore the unique nature of your condition by conducting an individualize examination, including a thorough history.   We recognize the interdependence of the human body and will assess all possible sources of your symptoms.

Following the history, a physical exam of the following will be completed:

  • Posture
  • Range of Motion & Strength
  • Soft Tissue & Joint Mobility / Integrity
  • Gait Mechanics
  • Balance and Proprioception Capacity
  • Nerve and Sensory Function

CPT Tailored Treatment

Your therapist will then tailor a plan of care directly to you, to achieve your individual goals.  Knowledge of evidenced-based medicine is applied to determine the most effective treatment to address your deficits.  Orthopedic problems respond to patient-specific treatment such as:

  • Comprehensive education:  anatomy, activity modification and injury prevention
  • Manual therapy:  joint or soft tissue mobilization, massage
  • Therapeutic exercise: stretching
  • or strengthening
  • Sport-specific training or drills
  • Postural education and training
  • Balance or coordination activities
  • Electrical stimulation for pain modulation or muscle re-education
